Artist's Statement & Contact

My photographs critique public advertisements and signage, in relation to the effects of vandals or the environment. The images are not composite digital art, but are single-frame documentary photographs. I only retouch the images as I would for a commercial photographic project - for brightness, clarity and framing. In final form, they become refashioned in the style of an advertising image yet with vandalism integrated into the composition. The photographs could be said to document, deconstruct and abstract the collective realities, layers of social meaning, and psychological fabric found within public media.

Nearly all of these advertisements no longer exist, and were replaced with new advertisements within hours or days of my photographing them.

Influences include the photography of Walker Evans, Harry Callahan and David LaChapelle; the artwork of Jacques Villeglé, Raymond Hains and James Rosenquist; and the writings of Gisèle Freund, G.W.F. Hegel and Noam Chomsky.
